Les Arbres
Acrylic Painting on gallery wrap canvas,
by Richard Lewis

New Orleans native Richard Lewis took an interest in art at a very early age. When given his first coloring book, he took the black crayon and added more shapes to color. Later he became an art major, then taught art, and nowadays credits Impressionism and Surrealism as major influences on his painting expressions. Lewis calls the style of these pieces ‘Caribbean Primitive/Pop,’ which seems to be very at home in New Orleans. “I attempt to convey the music in the air, the party atmosphere and the bright colors of old New Orleans. My technique is sort of a dash of Van Gogh and Matisse added to a bit of Lichtenstein and Haring that stirs up a spicy taste of the French Quarter.”
In New Orleans, find originals and prints by Richard Lewis at Le Jardin Glass Art on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Everywhere else, find works by Lewis at the online gallery
