“I like to keep the animal looking the same. But I use my own color palette,” explained Baton Rouge artist Simon Baxter, whose portraits of capital city pooches have captured the hearts of dog fanciers around the region. Baxter’s “Ruby,” an English bulldog owned by a friend, is a finalist in the LSU Vet School’s 2011 International Animals in Art exhibition, on view through April
at the Vet School.
Like what you see? On May 6, dog lovers who come out to Mid City Merchants’ Hot Art Cool Nights progressive art hop can sign up for a chance to win a commissioned portrait of their own dog, painted by Simon Baxter. Country Roads sponsors. Sign up at any participating merchant.
See more of Baxter’s work at Rue Cou Cou Art & Framing, 1857 Government Street  in the Circa complex.
