Looking for good seafood in Acadiana isn’t difficult, but determining the best is a challenge.
Chef Colt Patin to the rescue.
“The best seafood joint in Acadiana is at Crawfish Town USA,” Patin said. “It’s high quality seafood. It’s the real, old Cajun flavors. The seafood is prepared to order. You can taste the freshness. It’s some of the freshest seafood you can get around this area.”
Patin said the old barn that houses the restaurant dates back to the early 1900s. The restaurant, which is just off Interstate 10 at the Henderson/Cecilia exit, has made a name for itself by consistently serving up delicious crawfish, shrimp and crab. “It’s fresh seafood and great seasonings.”
Patin said the casual, sit-down old barn turned restaurant is quintessential Louisiana.
“You’re surrounded by lots of cypress. You’re not rushed. It’s a friendly staff that knows how to take care of you. It’s just a very nice atmosphere all around,” he said.
For those who aren’t really hungry for boiled seafood, Patin recommended the Seafood Festival. “It’s catfish, jambalaya, salad, boiled shrimp, crawfish or crab—fried and boiled. It’s a four-course meal right at $25,” he said. “I usually get my dessert to go, because I’m so stuffed.”
Patin is equally complimentary of restaurant Chef Dustie Latiolais. “He’s maintaining the high standards Crawfish Town USA is known for.”
Chef Colt Patin graduated from Breaux Bridge High. He was recently nominated by Louisiana Cooking Magazine as one of its Top Five Chefs. He teaches at the Louisiana Culinary Institute in Baton Rouge, but still lives in Breaux Bridge. He’s the dad of a 4-year-old and a 5-month-old and appreciates being home every night with his family but doing the work he loves in the food industry by day. His favorite meal to order any place, any time is down home chicken and sausage gumbo.
