“The thing that makes McGee’s Creek great is the clear flowing cool water (spring-fed all year long) that winds around the many curves of this creek,” said John Williams. “This forces the paddler to maneuver their craft around the curves, sand bars and stumps. The challenge is fun, and the beauty of the clear water running over the sandy bottom is hard to beat!”
And when it comes to great places to paddle, Williams knows what he’s talking about. He grew up paddling the waters of Louisiana with his family, and any regular reader of this magazine’s calendar section will have encountered some of the many canoeing expeditions he’s organized as the owner of Pack and Paddle in Lafayette.
Magee’s Creek runs near and through Tylertown, Mississippi, making the community a popular destination for tubers and canoeists. The folks in Mississippi clearly share Williams’ admiration for the creek, having awarded it the Scenic Streams designation, a program designed to encourage preservation of Mississippi’s most beautiful waterways.
