April 2010. Can lightning strike the same place twice? Chef Mike Fennelly and business partner Vicky Bayley’s latest restaurant collaboration, Mike’s on the Avenue, opened to frenzied foodie fans in January.

The talented team of restaurateurs operated the phenomenally successful restaurant in New Orleans from 1991-99, and are enthused about achieving a similar triumph with this new venture.

There’s another adage, “you can’t go home again,” that Bayley and Fennelly aren’t buying. Mike’s on the Avenue is located in the Lafayette Hotel at 628 St. Charles—the very same site as their previous establishment.

The first Mike’s on the Avenue was a showplace, featuring fantastic art as well as fabulous cuisine. An imaginative and accomplished artist, Fennelly designed the space and created all the artworks in the restaurant, as well as the menu, signage and even determined the wait staff’s attire. His culinary prowess and renown drew patrons and praise from throughout the country. Among the many awards he garnered was Food and Wine’s Ten Best New Chefs in America in 1993.
