A New App for Louisiana State Parks

November 2011. "There's an Asp for That"

And so it was that while describing the rubber snake that was part of her Cleopatra costume for an upcoming school event, one of the next generation of Fox-Smith’s foreshadowed her own future as a wordsmith with a perfect spin on that most ubiquitous current catch phrases. A phrase we’ve been given occasion to use again by the announcement of a new app from the Louisiana Office of State Parks for iPhone and Android users.

The free version allows users to find a state park by location or activity, then download campground and detailed facility maps ahead of their visit for use even when mobile service is unavailable. Other features include trail descriptions, social network linking, parks hours and calendars of events, weather condition information and direct access to the online reservation system. A paid version of the app is also available which includes GPS enabled features that allow visitors to record tracks or mark waypoints. When visitors purchase the paid version, a contribution will go toward the maintenance and expansion of Louisiana’s State Parks and Historic Sites. Get your app for that at www.LaStateParks.com.
