In reviewing the Baton Rouge Folklife Survey, state folklorist Maida Owens was struck particularly by the city's generosity. “There are so many people making things to give away,” said Owens. On October 10, the third in a series of four panels exploring Baton Rouge Traditions will focus on "How We Give and Work." The event, intended as a fundraiser to the Capital Area United Way's Jambalaya Jam, will feature Carolyn Musso with the Grandsons of Italy St Joseph altar, Judy Holley with The Giving Quilt and Wasted Women's Bee, and Sharon Coleman with Friends of the Animals sharing about their traditions. The panel will be facilitated by George Bell, president of Capital Area United Way. The Giving Quilt will help the public make quilt squares for the Baton Rouge Traditions quilt. 4:30 pm at Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar, with the panel beginning at 6 pm. louisianafolklife.org/LFP/BRproject.html.
