The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra throws its hat into the ring, celebrating the centennial of Benjamin Britten's birth with a concert of works by the acclaimed British composer at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. To be performed are Britten's Ballad of Heroes, Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, and his Violin Concerto No. 1, for which the orchestra will be joined by violinist Karen Gomyo. With the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans, all under the baton of LPO music director Carlos Miguel Prieto. 7:30 pm Friday at 1419 Basin Street.
• On Saturday, November 23 the Britten Brigade returns when the LPO's Chamber Series presents works at the UNO Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Karen Gomyo returns to play Britten's Suite for Violin and Piano, Op. 6. Also performed will be Six Metamorphoses After Ovid, Op. 49, and the Piano Quintet in G. minor.
