The Baton Rouge Symphony's newest Masterworks season commences when piano prodigy and Juilliard student, Colton Peltier, returns to the Capital city for the second year running. The 65th Anniversary season will open with a piece in memoriam to late Baton Rouge Symphony Board of Directors member, Edward T. Borie—Wagner's Siegfried's Rhine Journey from Götterdämmerung. Pianist Peltier will then deliver the Rhapsodie on a theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff, a perennial favorite with audiences. The program will end with Maestro Muffitt leading the orchestra in Symphony No. 2 by Sibelius. This body of work captures the essence of the Finnish landscape, its people, and its culture. As a gifted piano prodigy, Colton's focus on becoming a concert pianist has been unwavering since childhood. He now attends the Juilliard School in New York City where he studies with Yoheved Kaplinsky full time. 7:30 pm at the Baton Rouge River Center, 275 South River Road. $25–$55 tickets from the symphony box office at (225) 383-0500, or brso.org.
