Members of the funk/soul act The Commodores first met as freshmen in 1968 at Tuskegee University in Alabama and got their big break opening for the Jackson 5 (not bad exposure). After signing to the Motown label in 1972, the group (once fronted by Lionel Richie) cranked out classic ballad after classic ballad ("Three Times a Lady" and "Easy," just to name a couple). They managed to fit in a few up-tempo numbers as well, particularly party favorite "Brick House." All this to say, you don't want to miss the mighty-mighty Commodores at L'Auberge this evening, closing out 2013 on a high, sweet note. 8 pm; doors open at 7 pm. $60. lbatonrouge.com.
