Lectures, cooking demonstrations, and theatrical performances all focused on the influence of the Mississippi River
New Orleans Jazz Museum 400 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
It's no secret that the Mighty Mississippi shapes many aspects of life in New Orleans. Not only is the Crescent City situated not far above the river's mouth, its nickname is derived from the river's iconic curve. Downriver Festival aims to celebrate the cultural, environmental, economic, and other impact the Mississippi has on the bustling port of New Orleans. This year's festival, themed "Southern Seafood" in true Big Easy fashion, will be held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum and feature live music, food vendors, and children's activities; as well as lectures, cooking demonstrations, and theatrical performances all focused on the influence of the Mississippi River. 10:30 am–7 pm. Free and open to the public. downriverfest.org.
