The Hub City boasts a multitude of spirits and spectres, from those lost in Civil War skirmishes and fever outbreaks to those souls that simply can’t say goodbye. Today they wander the halls of Lafayette's bed-and-breakfasts and restaurants and linger along back roads and cemeteries. Pirates are rumored to guard buried treasure, and ancient French legends hide in the swamps, bayous and woods.
Journalist and ghost seeker Cheré Dastugue Coen has gathered Lafayette's ghostly legends in her new book, Haunted Lafayette. Readers can meet and greet the author and have their books signed at one of the following engagements:
• October 12: 10 am–2 pm at J&R Educational Supplies in Lafayette.
• October 26: Coen will join mediums Vicky Cormier and Allyson Glynn Schram and traiteur Becca Begnaud for a “Coffee, Tea and Spirit” discussion from 2 pm to 4 pm at Little Big Cup in Arnaudville, followed by a book signing.
• October 30: 7 pm at Carpe Diem Gelato & Espresso Bar in downtown Lafayette, as part of Voices in Fall literary series.
