Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra November
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra has been up to lots of good things lately. Coming up this month:
• Wizard of Oz: Movie With Orchestra. November 6 at 7:30 pm, November 7 at 2:30 pm, and November 19 at 7:30 pm, all at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans. Widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in film history, The Wizard of Oz and its iconic music continue to captivate film-goers of all ages seventy-five years after its premiere. Join the LPO for this special presentation of the full-length film with Harold Arlen's timeless soundtrack performed live by the LPO.
• Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. November 19, 7:30 pm at Orpheum Theater in New Orleans; November 20, 7:30 pm at First Baptist Church in Covington. Greatness knows no bounds in this performance featuring masterful composers from the world of classical music. The program begins with Webern's Variations for Orchestra, followed by virtuoso guest violinist Paul Huang's performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. To close, LPO concludes with Schubert's 9th Symphony, The Great.
• Mendelssohn's Octet. November 22, 2:30 pm at Nunemaker Auditorium in New Orleans. LPO's popular Chamber Music series returns with a special performance featuring virtuoso violinist Paul Huang and works of the early modern and early romantic eras. Two ground-breaking string quartet works by Anton Webern begin the program, followed by a pair of classic early-romantic chamber works by Schubert and Mendelssohn.
