The first full weekend of November means Basile's Louisiana Swine Festival is back, complete with pork cook-offs and boudin eating contests, live music on Main Street, hog calling, and more. Proceedings are presided over by the festival royalty, anointed at a pageant the week before and honored with distinguished appearances from Queen Petunia and King Porky (rumor is, this year it is no less than Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser). Kiddie day happens Friday at the fairgrounds' Piglet Pen from noon–5 pm; most festivities go down on Saturday from 7 am–9:30 pm; and a 10 am Swine Festival mass leads into street dancing and a parade on Sunday, with all of the festivities to close at 6 pm. $5; $3 for children 5 and younger. louisianaswinefestival.com.
