Mid City Jazz Festival
BRCC Magnolia Pavilion 301 Community College Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806
Charles Brooks, head of BRCC's audio engineering program and a professional jazz vibraphonist in his own right, proudly announces his third annual Mid City Jazz Festival, to be held on the main stage at the Magnolia Theater at Baton Rouge Community College’s Mid-City campus. Open to all middle school, high school, and independent music schools in Louisiana, this one-day festival presents youth jazz ensembles with the opportunity to perform in front of professional jazz musicians and college educators in a friendly yet competitive environment. Participants also will receive mentoring opportunities, exposure to the operation of Dr. Brooks’s industry-level recording studio and program, and the opportunity to be part of a future focused on the preservation of Louisiana’s jazz music, education, and heritage. Events also include a rare and extremely unique Judges Concert, featuring Dr. Charles Brooks on jazz vibraphone and drum set, Rex Richardson on trumpet, Dr. Willis Delony on piano, and Michael Foster on the upright bass. Free and open to the public. 7 pm. TheCharlesBrooks.com/mcjf.
