Each of the roughly twenty venues connected with the contemporary art triennial Prospect New Orleans plays a particular curatorial role. For the New Orleans Museum of Art, Curator Katie Pfohl explains, the role is to "explore the ways individual and cultural identity is shaped across global networks of communication and exchange, and considers how these forces might meet and meld in a rich, multicultural city like New Orleans." NOMA's featured artists include Dawit L. Petros, Xaviera Simmons, Gauri Gill & Rajesh Vangad, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Alexis Esquivel, and the late Barkley L. Hendricks. These artists work within and beyond modern convention to show how tradition informs the present and reveals a direction for the future. On view from November 18—February 25, 2018.
