Here's an interesting one: two weekends in November, the Shadowbox Theatre will host the SoloMania Festival—a theatrical series offering New Orleans theatre lovers a menu of solo performances to showcase the diversity of perspectives and solo techniques currently enlivening Crescent City stages. The solo shows reflect a range of sensibilities, including performances for late-night, adult, and child audiences. SoloMania promotes experimentation and risk among writers, solo performers, and directors. It supports the development and presentation of new one-woman, one-man, and one-person shows. The format promises back-to-back solo shows in a variety of styles that include comedy, drama, puppetry, cabaret, monologue, storytelling, burlesque, and intermedia. The line-up includes Bremner Fletcher Duthie, Veronica Russell, Frederick Mead, Harry Mayronne, Diana Shortez, Karen Shields, Jennifer Pagan, Amy Woodruff, Enzo Lombard, Brady McKellar, Claudia Baumgarten, Pandora Andrea Gastelum, Brad McEntire, and Casey Groves. More than performers, they are also writers, directors, musicians, drama teachers, puppeteers, and costume designers. SoloMania will also be offering workshops in developing solo performances; participating students will present their final works at the SoloMania Festival. Eight nights of back-to-back shows between November 2 and 10 at Shadow Box Theatre, 2400 St. Claude Avenue. $10 per show or $40 for a five-show punchcard. (504) 235-1667 or solomaniafest.com.
