The charitable arm of the Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge, the Apollo AIDS/Crisis Fund, is hosting an exclusive advance screening of the new movie by Del Shores. Shores (creator of Sordid Lives) returns to the screen with a film adaptation of his hilarious and heartbreaking play. Southern Baptist Sissies is the story of four gay boys who grew up in the Southern Baptist church and the different journey each takes in coming to terms with their own homosexuality versus what they were taught by the church. Writer and director Del Shores draws the audience into the fire, allowing them to laugh one minute and cry the next as they experience complicated emotions revealed from all sides—the confused child, the struggling adolescent, and the angry and damaged adult. Currently, Southern Baptist Sissies is only playing in film festivals around the country and has already won five film festival awards. While it is not rated, it’s recommended for ages eighteen and over. For more info, go to facebook.com/southernbaptistsissies. 2pm at the SPLASH Nightclub located at 2183 Highland Road. Admission is a $10 donation; tickets available at apollobatonrouge.com.
