A family-oriented celebration of local music and food, the Spice & Music Festival is back for a ninth year, putting St. Landry-area cooks and musicians through their paces in South City Park. A special blend of musical performances are scheduled throughout the festival event including country music icon Joe Diffie, Hotline, Leon Chavis and the Zydeco Flames, Chris Ardoin and NuStep, Wayne and Same Ol’ 2 Step, Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express, and Travis Matte and the Kingpins.
The event also celebrates the spice industry, which is well-represented in Opelousas. Cajun jambalaya, Creole red beans and rice, sauce piquante and a galaxy of fried seafood are just a few. Arts & crafts, plus lots of things on which to climb and bounce for the kiddos, too. South City Park is located at 1524 South Market Street. $7 adults; $3 for children (ten and younger). opelousasspiceandmusicfestival.com or (337) 948-5227.
