Taking Leave
With Alzheimer's Disease, how do you know when to go?
Essanee Theater 126 Iberia Street, New Iberia, Louisiana 70560
Iberia Performing Arts League (IPAL) will present Taking Leave by Nagle Jackson as its closing production of the season. Professor Eliot Pryne is packing to leave a hotel, or so he thinks; in fact, Byrne suffers from Alzheimer's disease, and is in the process of taking his leave from the world. His alter ego narrates as his daughters work decide what they must do for their father, in a structure that echoes Shakespeare's King Lear. This bittersweet comedy may not be an easy watch, but worthwhile, as more and more people's lives are affected by this disease.
The production will run June 1 through June 11. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 pm; Sunday matinees at 3 pm. $10, general seating. Ticket outlets are Delaune's Pharmacy, Paul's Flowers, and The Daily Iberian in New Iberia. Tickets may also be purchased via Eventbrite or at the door at time of showing. Strong language and the difficult theme mean this isn't one for the kids. 337-364-6114 or ipal@cox.net.
