Waltzing the Muse: The Paintings of James Michalopoulos

Among other honors, James Michalopoulos has been dubbed the Official Artist of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival six times—more so than any other artist. His iconic posters for the beloved event will be on display at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art this spring and summer, joining works created throughout the painter and sculptor's thirty-six-year career. Getting his start as a New Orleans street artist, Michalopoulos quickly moved from on-the-spot portraits to depicting the city's unique architecture. See the natural and built worlds through Michalopoulos' eyes in Waltzing the Muse: The Paintings of James Michalopoulos, on display from March 1 until July 16.

A public reception will be held on March 11 from 6 pm–8 pm, with live music from Loose Marbles and cocktails from Old New Orleans Rum. $13.50 general admission. ogdenmuseum.org.
