Pond Store, Pond, Ms
“Pond Store takes you back in history like no other place in this area. According to local records, the Pond, from which the store derived its name, was built by the county as a watering place for oxen, horses and mules which were used in hauling cotton and other produce to Fort Adams by wagon for transshipment via river. The original building burned and the current structure was built in 1882. It is a place of peace and tranquility, sitting on the high porch at night listening to the ducks on the pond and nature slowly going to sleep around you is like heaven on earth. The antiques, the stories, the ducks and donkeys are fascinating. If you are adventuresome the Tunica Falls State Park is 100 yards up the road. A short 2 mile hike will take you to as many as 7 waterfalls.” -Jim Chaffin, Woodville

I love to sit with a friend, Lois, and enjoy the beauty, to walk down the top of the levee with the breeze blowing, or, have a plate of french fries blow away and feel like a child again as you try and catch them. I love it even in cold weather. I grew up in and around Port Allen, so I remember when the Ferry actually went back and forth across the river. My, to see the Preacher Man dressed in white robe baptizing and reaching out those that would stop to chat. I can still see it all. Such memories I will cherish always.” -Margaret S.
