BEST OF THE REST

Beau Rivage, Biloxi, Ms
“It's close. It's near the water. Food is good. Entertainment is good. Self indulgence is set just right.” -Billy Duet, Cut Off

Chicot State Park, Ville Platte, La
“Alligators swim up to your cabin at night, and you can stay up all night with flashlights looking for their red eyes. And at sunrise, coffee on your porch with fog lifting off of the swamp is an experience like no other.” -Aimee St. Amant, New Orleans

False River, New Roads, La
“We often bring friends out on the lake and it is a blast for everybody.  Those who like water sports and fishing.  There are great shops in New Roads for those who prefer to wait till the evening when its cooler to go out.  The sunset on the river is a treat every night of the week.  On the 4th of July and New Years the view from the water of all the individual fireworks is breathtaking.” -Virginia Baber, Jarreau

"Wakeboarding, barbecueing, hanging my feet off the dock. Everything a relaxing weekend should be." -Katherine and Rob Treppendahl, St. Francisville

Grand Isle, La
“The last time we were at Grand Isle we fished for trout and redfish, we brought our catch back to the camp, fried it in Tony Cachere's seasoning, drank beer and told great lies.” -Malcolm Wright, Baton Rouge

Lafayette, La
“Stayed at  T'Frere's House and Garconniere Bed and Breakfast, wonderful food and hospitality;  visited Vermillionville Acadian Village, genuine Cajun attraction, complete with Zydeco Music and dancing.  Our Iowa Guests loved it!” -Jesse Locke, Baton Rouge

Lake Darbonne, North Louisiana
“The serenity of what that lake brings to me is why I go....my Walden.” -Amy James, Baton Rouge

Natchitoches, La
"We started by having lunch at Lasyone's for the best meat pies in town.  We visited lovely Melrose Plantation where Clementine Hunter painted her famous depictions of the plantation life of her childhood, drove around the beautiful country side to Cloutierville and some beautiful old church cemetaries for picture taking. We ate dinner that night at The Landing for some delicious seafood.  The next day we shopped Main Street for early Christmas gifts.” -Becky Mixon, Baton Rouge

River Road
“We just took my in-laws to Old River Road the weekend after Thanksgiving.  We enjoyed tours of the Laura and Houmas House plantations, lunch at The Cabin restaurant (Burnside), and a peaceful stop at the beautiful Lady of Lourdes sanctuary in St. Michael's Catholic Church." -Jenny Helber, Slidell

“I have been vacationing between Vicksburg and New Orleans almost exclusively for eleven straight years, as the possibilities are truly endless. And I've become very intimate with the region, and most, if not all of the best historic inns and many of the quirkiest oddball places as well.  My last visit in late October included an overnight stay at Nottoway.  This was my second visit here since 1998, but my first since the recent renovations, which were quite sensitively and masterfully done.  My expectations were vastly exceeded on every level; the new restaurant, Ramsay's, made brilliant use of the first floor rotunda and the view from the tables was a vision from a fantasy of elegance in white.  Nottoway has just redefined the pinnacle of 'the best', from scale and setting, to the superior quality of the materials in the guest rooms and historic interpretations but most noticeable of all the changes was the perfect and unfailingly seamless execution of service from everyone there.  When Mr. Ramsay, the owner  and Mr. Huval, the General Manager had finished this monumental undertaking, they had Nailed It perfectly, and maintained a noble sense of the propriety of things in the process. I'm mad at myself for not staying another night and began missing it immediately upon leaving, absolutely blown away with delight.”  -George Cantley, Longview, Tx

Tunica Falls, Pond, Ms
“Hiked with dogs and took off shoes to wade in the water.” -Denna Lee, Denham Springs

"Anniversary night in the big house... sweet potato biscuits and coffee on the veranda." -Karen Stephens, Baton Rouge
