This month you'll find the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra toting horns, strings, and drums to celebrate the season all around the region, during a widely diverse set of performances:

• Saturday and Sunday, December 1 & 2: Join the LPO and Delta Festival Ballet for a sixth annual performance of Tchaikovsky's Christmas classic The Nutcracker. 4 pm Saturday, 2 pm Sunday at Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell.

• Sunday, December 9: The symphony brings The Angelic Sounds of Christmas—a program of popular holiday favorites, to Gretna's St. Joseph Church beginning at 7:30 pm.

• Thursday & Friday, December 13 & 14: The orchestra performs A Baroque Christmas featuring Bach's Christmas oratorio, Cantata IV and selections from Handel's Messiah. 7:30 pm at First Baptist Church, New Orleans on Thursday and St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Mandeville on Friday.
