Frederick Douglass at Magnolia Mound

The Friends of Magnolia Mound Plantation will present their eighth annual Black History Month dramatic production, Frederick Douglass, The Rest of the Story. Born a slave in Maryland, Frederick Douglass became one of the most famous men in nineteenth-century America. He was an American social reformer, orator, writer and statesman. After escaping from slavery, he became a leader of the abolitionist movement, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writing. Douglass wrote several autobiographies eloquently describing his experiences in slavery in his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. After the war, Douglass remained
active in the United States’ struggle to reach its potential as “land of the free”. 

Oneal Isaac, an award-winning actor, storyteller and playwright, will portray Frederick Douglas. 2 pm on the grounds of the plantation, 2161 Nicholson Drive. Free. 225-271-4157 or friendsofmagnoliamound.org.
