The Slidell Antique Spring Street Fair
This spring, St. Tammany Parish is hosting a full calendar of fun family-friendly events.
On March 25, stop by the Abita Springs Whole Town Garage Sale, when the entire town of Abita Springs will be doing its spring cleaning. Whatever you’re in the market for, someone in Abita Springs has it and is tired of it; so come rummage around for a few treasures.
April 5—9, A Taste of Covington offers the chance to explore new restaurants in this rapidly evolving foodie paradise. A five-day festival of food, music, wine, art, and more food, A Taste of Covington makes a great one-stop introduction to the Northshore’s culinary delights. And the changing lineups and creativity of the organizers mean it’s worth returning to year after year.
More good eats await further east, at the 14th Annual Hospice Foundation of the South All-You-Can-Eat Crawfish Cook-off in Slidell scheduled for April 22. Sixty teams will compete for the title of “Best Crawfish,” and someone’s going to have to eat it all… Proceeds benefit the good work of the Hospice Foundation; crawfish benefits you.

The Great Louisiana Birdfest returns April 7—9. Presented by the Northlake Nature Center, this event celebrates birds and those that love them, offering day trips to great birdwatching locations in natural preserves such as Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and Fontainebleau State Park. There’s a good chance of spotting the elusive and endangered red-cockaded woodpecker (one of eight species of woodpecker that call St. Tammany home).
Rounding out the spring shopping calendar is the Slidell Antique Spring Street Fair on April 29 and 30, when the thriving antiques community of Slidell puts its best finds on display. (And if you can’t make it that weekend, note that there’s a Sidewalk Saturday every month to come and enjoy.)
