It’s time to tailgate! The East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s One Book One Community initiative will host a Tailgate Kickoff Party on Friday, March 14 to introduce Season of Life, an inspiring biography of former NFL football star Joe Ehrmann by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jeffrey Marx. Families are invited to the Main Library at Goodwood from 5 pm–8 pm to enjoy live entertainment, children’s activities, and an array of tailgate foods.
This year’s community read is Jeffrey Marx’s Season of Life–a sports story that challenges traditional views of success while showing readers what it truly means to live a compassionate and fulfilling life. Season of Life encourages readers to reconsider definitions of masculinity while taking a deeper look into how teams can love one another better, both on and off of the field.

The kickoff tailgate promises balloon animals, sports team mascots, live music, tailgate games like cornhole, and even VR gaming and Wii Sports tournaments! There’ll be plenty of tailgate treats catered fresh by Odom’s Kitchen and paid for by Patrons of the Public Library. Attendees are invited to bring their own signature Louisiana tailgate foods: gumbo, burgers, dips—you name it!
To promote unity and collective support, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library is inviting local organizations dedicated to community enrichment, personal development, and supporting youth in crisis to participate. The library aims to bring awareness to challenges faced by at-risk youth by providing resources and highlighting the importance of mentorship. Participants are encouraged to check out a digital or physical copy of Season of Life from the library and begin a conversation about leadership while learning about opportunities for supporting and nurturing kids in the community.
