Dishes from Safta's Table.
In March, New Orleans’s Lakeview neighborhood welcomed the latest concept from Chef Alon Shaya and his wife Emily—a counter service café described by Shaya as serving “neighborhood Mediterranean” cuisine. The interiors are mid-century modern and cafeteria-esque, with the casualness of a grab-and-go spot but a menu living up to the expectations of any Shaya pursuit. Some of the dishes are taken straight from flagship, Saba’s menu; but all of them are inspired by Shaya’s grandmother, “Safta”’s home dishes: chicken schnitzel and slow cooked lamb, roasted chicken with a harissa glaze, and lots of pita. saftastable.com.
