In December, the much-anticipated Main Street Market in downtown Baton Rouge finally opened its doors—launching with it new restaurants, a coffee shop, and a teaching kitchen. An anchor to the neighborhood for more than twenty years now, the 8,000 square foot indoor dining hall has been closed since September 2023, when BREADA, which manages the building, set in motion a massive renovation and redesign.
Now once again an active third space in the heart of downtown, the Market is home to four restaurants—all serving locally sourced ingredients on their menus. There is Louisiana Creole Creations, with its beloved regional comfort foods of poboys, catfish, boudin balls, and gumbo. Vivian’s Rotisserie and Grill is serving up healthy variations on a rotisserie chicken, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Sapor Indian Fusion offers a modern twist on handcrafted Indian classics. And at The Cozy Griddle, think indulgent shrimp and grits, fluffy pancakes, and daily homestyle specials. River & Roots Coffee Shop will be on deck, with fresh, ethically sourced espresso drinks and community. And The Teaching Kitchen will act as a dedicated space for BREADA’s educational programming, including cooking demos, nutrition education classes, and food safety training.
