T-Boy's Exterior
Folklorist Barry Ancelet famously shut down the ongoing “Great Debate” about which of Acadiana’s many meat markets serves the best boudin when he uttered the truism: “The best boudin is always the boudin closest to where you live.” For most of my life, T-Boy’s Slaughterhouse in Mamou met this standard, and it has since remained the link I go to bat for, no matter where else I’ve lived. But if the fact that T-Boy’s is one of the last places that still uses liver, or that the pork is purchased live and processed in-house, doesn’t land the shop on the top of your list yet—perhaps its new proximity to I-10 will.
After operating for almost thirty years in Mamou, T-Boys opened up their second location in Eunice just a few years ago, and are now expanding to Crowley, just off the interstate—making the famous boudin no longer a thing you have to brave the backroads for and positioning the shop much closer to the backyards of many more boudin lovers. Construction’s just begun, more details to come.
