Many Louisianans can trace their Gulf Coast ancestry back centuries, but this year, we're celebrating 250 years of also calling ourselves Americans. Across the country, we are joining fellow citizens in marking this historic milestone, reflecting on our nation’s past, and paying homage to our ancestors like never before. As the Fourth quickly approaches, here are three standout celebrations occurring around the state worth checking out.
Toledo Bend Boat Parade and Fireworks Show
July 4
Think blow-up eagles, bunting banners, and party barges—all decked out in red, white, and blue. Just in time for Independence Day, Toledo Bend Lake Country caps a free, week-long patriotic extravaganza filled with concerts, historical reenactments, and even a community time capsule with a patriotic boat parade and dazzling fireworks show across the waters of Toledo Bend. Between the south end of Toledo Bend Lake and Cypress Bend Park, spectators will enjoy a festive, family-friendly celebration of patriotism from both land and the water. Avoyelles Arts and Music Festival
July 4
Born from a grassroots art initiative, this premier cultural celebration attracts thousands to Central Louisiana to celebrate the creativity, culture, and spirit of Avoyelles Parish—alongside America’s semiquincentennial. With this year being the nation’s landmark 250th birthday, there is no better time to join CenLa to celebrate the extraordinary milestone. On the Fourth, the fifteenth annual Avoyelle Arts and Music Festival returns to Paragon Casino Resort Festival Grounds, inviting families to spend the morning watching Louisiana’s longest running Fourth of July Parade, before festivities continue with live performances by artists including Jourdan Thibodeaux and TK Soul. In addition to the tunes, guests can look forward to local culinary creations, vendor booths selling handcrafted wares, a student art expo, and boudin and watermelon eating contests, a bake off, and a car show ($40 to enter). Of course, there'll be a patriotic fireworks display to end the night. America 250: The Soundtrack
July 11, 7 pm–9 pm
For more than four decades, the Lake Charles Symphony’s annual Summer Pops concert, hosting up to 1,500 guests, has remained one of Southwest Louisiana’s most anticipated summer music festivals. This year, the symphony invites the community to celebrate music, memories, and America’s 250th birthday in a sing-along celebration that promises to resonate with audiences of all ages. The evening kicks off with powerful American anthems, then embarks on a musical journey through generations of the country's top hits from the 1950s to today. With open seating options from $35 per person ($95 for individual floor seating), guests can enjoy the newly expanded orchestra alongside iconic performers like Gavin Hope and Jean Meilleur, performing a repertoire that includes songs by the Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, and Chris Stapleton.
