2024 Lineage Awards Honoring Cissy Whipp and Robert Dafford

Lafayette's vibrant cultural landscape as we enjoy it today is, it is easy to forget, less than fifty years old. A collective of passionate culture bearers and artists paved the way a mere generation ago, and continue to contribute to the Acadiana community's rich arts ecosystem. To honor those who laid this foundation, Basin Arts has established a new award and residency dedicated to area artists who have dedicated a lifetime's-worth of artwork to the community. The inaugural honorees this year are legacy dance artist Cissy Whipp and nationally-recognized muralist Robert Dafford, who according to Basin Arts creative director Clare Cook "embody the very essence of what we value at Basin Arts—creativity, community, and collaboration." The two artists will take part in a year-long residency program at Basin Arts designed around mentorship, in which they will host workshops, critique nights, and more. 

The award ceremony will take place at the Acadian Superette, where guests will enjoy cocktails, live music, and a multi-course dinner; as well as performances by UL College of the Arts Dance students, violinist Lauren Baker, and DJ Ann Glaviano.
