30 artists featured in SLOW: 2026 Summer Contemporary Exhibition at Glassell Gallery

LSU School of Art and LSU College of Art + Design reveal the thirty artists selected for LSU School of Art’s 2026 Summer Contemporary exhibition SLOW, which has been juried by New Orleans-based art historian and curator Emily Alesandrini. 

Embracing “slow” in all its registers, this year’s Summer Contemporary features work that engages slow states of being, slow processes, and slow media. Selected work cultivates attention through deceleration and degraded signals; the work resists efficiency and resolution to instead seek immersive states of flow. The call was extended to contemporary visual artists and culture bearers who live, work, study in–or are connected to– Louisiana. The call especially encouraged local artists and university student-artists from across the Greater Baton Rouge area to submit.

Artists selected include Cynthia Greig, Virginia Candler, Megan Bickel, Raina Benoit, Caitlin Ezell Waugh, Elizabeth Freeman, Mark Leavens, Maren Brown, Tim Gonchoroff, Emery Tillman, Rima Day, Rob Carpenter, Courtney Barr, TahJah Harmony, Cora Nimtz, Lilian LaBorde, Farzana Akhtar, Soumitra Kumar Biswas, Miles Kinney, H. Cole Wiley, Diane Bronstein, Ghislaine & Lando Fremaux-Valdez, Celine Browning, Jill Stoll, Boris Fitzgerald, Edem Dake, Samantha Combs, Thrasyvoulos Kalaitzidis, and Freddie Jen Cohen.
