A Sense of Place—and Loss: Artists and Scientists Facing Change Workshop
Acadiana Center for the Arts 101 West Vermilion Street, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501
Following a trying flood season, with high levels of consciousness upon environmental disaster and the fragility of our South Louisiana landscapes, the Bayou Culture Collaborative invites regional artists (traditional, contemporary, visual, musical, literary, etc.) and scientists to a free immersive workshop to examine opportunities for advocacy and creativity in the face of land loss and cultural shift.
Facilitated by Paddy Bowman, Founding Director of Local Learning: The National Network for Folk Arts in Education, and Brandon Ballengée, visual artist and biologist. Workshop presenters include: Prosanta Chakrabarty, Associate Professor and Curator of Ichthyology at LSU; Suzanne Fredericq, UL Professor of Biology; Janie Luster, traditional Houma Indian palmetto weaver and cultural preservationist; and Lynda Frese, visual artist and UL Professor Emerita.
Free, but space is limited. Lunch provided. To register, contact Paige Krause at the Acadiana Center for the Arts at (337) 233-7060 x232 or paige@acadianacenterforthearts.org.
