May at the Abita Springs Opry
Musical talent this spring at the Abita Springs Opry!
Abita Springs Town Hall 22161 Level Street, Abita Springs, Louisiana 70420
The Abita Springs Opry is devoted to preserving Louisiana's indigenous music in all its guises. Arrive early and join the folks who've made a ritual of enjoying gumbo, hot dogs, and homemade pastries, not to mention the pre-show sound checks and front porch concerts. It all adds up to the good ole' family atmosphere that the Opry strives for. The lineup for May 19 at the Abita Springs Town Hall includes:
- Last Chance Bluegrass Band: If you like straight-out hard-driving energetic Bluegrass, you will like the Last Chance Band., one of the Opry's house bands for several years. They provide a great presence on the stage coupling their musical and individual personalities. Bluegrass has always been a mainstay of the opry and these guys do a fine job of continuing that tradition.
- Daryl, Daryl, Daryl, and My Other Cousin Daryl: These regulars at the Old Time Feed Store music series present a nice blend of music that can best be described as “Americana."
- Sheryl Cormier and the Cajunettes: This all-female Cajun Band from the Lafayette area features fiddler Gina Forsyth who, besides the house bands, has performed at the Abita Springs Opry more than any other musician.
- Miss Sophie Lee: Sophie, a mainstay in the club scene for some time, performs traditional New Orleans Jazz and can be seen regularly on Frenchmen Street.
After every show, many of the musicians gather at the nearby Abita Brew Pub to jam. Doors open at 5:45 pm, show from 7 pm − 9 pm. $18. (985) 892-0711 or abitaopry.org for details.
