African American History Month at the Library

In honor of African American History Month this February, several branches of the Lafourche Parish Library system are hosting programs to honor the contributions of African Americans and to educate on African American history in this country.
February 1: Teens and adults can craft an African print-inspired keychain at the Lockport Branch Library, 11 am.
February 1–18: Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to participate in a drawing contest at the Thibodaux Branch Library. Kids can submit drawings depicting people or scenes from Black History from February 1 to February 18. The winner will be announced and awarded a prize on February 21.
February 3: Black History Month will be celebrated at the Golden Meadow Branch Library with a paper quilt craft for children and teens ages 7 to 17 that features prominent African Americans, 4:30 pm.
February 4: Teens can explore history in a new, interactive way with a HarrietTubman read-aloud and art activity at the Raceland Branch Library, 4:30 pm.
February 6: Tweens and teens ages 8 to 16 can emulate the style of African American artist Alma Woodsey Thomas in a canvas art class at the Gheens Branch Library, 3:30 pm.
February 19: All ages can test their knowledge of Black history in a trivia contest at the Bayou Branch Library, 3:30 pm.
February 27: Mae Jemison, the first black woman to travel in space, will be honored with a story time and craft for kids ages 0 to 5 at the Larose Branch Library, 1 pm.
