Acclaimed New Orleans cellist, composer, and improviser Helen Gillet—Gambit's 2014 pick for Big Easy Best Female Performer—is coming to Alexandria this May. Belgian-born Gillet took her first cello lessons at age 9, going on to earn her Master's Degree in Music from Loyola University. Now, with seven albums under her belt, she has toured the globe extensively, earning a reputation for her exciting, jazz-fueled, funky improvisations and French chansons. Catch her for an After Hours concert at the Alexandria Museum of Art this month.
