Head to the Southern Forest Heritage Museum in Long Leaf for the Annual Fall Festival and Small Scale Steam-Up. This festival has it all, from train rides, pony rides, food trucks, live music, woodcarving, face painting, and inflatables, to the less traditional activities involving a historic sawmill village, live blacksmithing, and a vintage machine shop. Train enthusiasts should make sure to check out the several “Gauge 1” live steam-powered locomotive models from the International Small Scale Steam-Up Company. 4 pm–7 pm Friday; 10 am–7 pm Saturday. $5 Friday; $10 Saturday; Free for children under five. forestheritagemuseum.org.
