Karen deClouet
On display through July 31 at the Gallery at Cité des Arts, the work of Louisiana based artist Karen deClouet is designed to capture, and to hold, the eye. It's a collection of segmented landscapes painted from photographs in broad applications of color, then sliced up into geometric shapes and angles, and interwoven with other spaces and places.
Each painting is fueled by another, and pieces of the same photographs will often reappear in multiple works of art.
"I approach my work with the intent to create completely new spaces, which are the result of challenging the source material and the process behind it," she says.
