Art Rocks!: Arts in Monroe
Statewide Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Herons on the Bayou in Monroe art sculpture
Friday, April 17, at 8:30 pm and Saturday, April 18, at 5:30 pm on Art Rocks!, see how the arts and business communities in Monroe came together for the largest and most sweeping public art project ever to migrate to Ouachita Parish. Inspired by the blue herons of the region, Herons on the Bayou nests six-foot-tall sculptures at area businesses in every fashion imaginable, painted and adorned by area artists. Brooke Foy, Assistant Professor at the University of Louisiana Monroe, takes us on a birdwatching tour. Plus, see stories about visual and performing artists from around the country.
Hosted by James Fox-Smith of Country Roads Magazine, Art Rocks! is LPB’s weekly series that spotlights artists, performance, culture, literature, history and the impact of art in our world. It features Louisiana stories, as well as segments from across the country. Current and past episodes are here: www.lpb.org/artrocks.
