John R. Kemp’s book Expressions of Place features the work of thirty-seven artists including Libby Johnson and her painting Bonnet Carré
On Art Rocks! Friday, December 27 at 8:30PM and Saturday, December 28 at 5:30PM (episode #410), we meet John R. Kemp, author of Expressions of Place: The Contemporary Louisiana Landscape. Kemp’s book embarks on a journey across the rural and urban landscapes of Louisiana as interpreted by thirty-seven talented artists from around the state. We travel to Dayton, Ohio to visit one of the few theater companies still dedicated to bringing new musicals to the stage; we meet jeweler Rebecca Rose, who draws upon childhood memories to create her “Sculpturings;” and explore how Larry Vienneau Jr. weaves mythologies about the raven into his visual narratives. Plus, in our Louisiana Treasures segment, we rediscover the sculptures of Al Lavergne that adorn the façades of the Louisiana State Archives.
Hosted by James Fox-Smith of Country Roads Magazine, Art Rocks! is LPB’s weekly series that spotlights artists, performance, culture, literature, history and the impact of art in our world.
