Demond Melancon
Big Freedia
Best known for his intricate hand-sewn beadwork as is flaunted down the streets of New Orleans each year, adorning the famous Mardi Gras Indian suits, Demond Melancon has always sought to tell important stories from African and American history.
In As Luck Would Have It, an exhibition at Arthur Roger Gallery this month, viewers get up close to these stories in the forms of beaded portraits of pop culture icons including Frida Kahlo, Aretha Franklin, Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint, and more.
On display from August 3–Septmebr 21, As Luck Would Have It opens with a free reception on White Linen Night from 6 pm–8 pm.
