The East Baton Rouge Parish Library's annual Author/Illustrator Program affords an opportunity for the exchange of ideas with prominent writers, artists, scholars, and performers of literature for children and young adults. This year, the program features award-winning author/illustrator Salina Yoon, who has published nearly two hundred novelty books which have sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide. Yoon will take part in events held Thursday and Friday at the Main Library.
October 7: Penguins, Bears, and Ducks, OH MY!—Elementary-aged children are invited to meet Yoon and to hear her story, starting with her childhood in South Korea through her journey to becoming a published American author/illustrator. She will share real-life stories that have inspired her books, and will end with an art demonstration and a Q&A. 9 am–9:45 am. Free.
October 8: Creating a Culture of READERS—Calling all who love books—teachers, librarians, artists, writers, and children's literature enthusiasts all! Yoon will discuss the art of using life experiences to create characters that readers care about. In this workshop, she'll share techniques for inspiring students to find these books, and will show educators and librarians how to create their own concept book using creative thinking skills. 10 am–12:30 pm.
