Bloomsday
Mr. Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls

Sláinte mhaith! It'll be a little bit of Ireland here in Baton Rouge when the Baton Rouge Irish Club hosts the ever-popular Bloomsday Celebration—a toast to the life of Irish novelist James Joyce and the fictitious events in his novel Ulysses. First published in its entirety in 1922, the events of Joyce's modernist masterpiece follows protagonist Leopold Bloom on a single day, June 16, 1904—also the day Joyce first went out with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, upon whom Leopold's wife Molly is based. The inaugural Bloomsday took place in Dublin in 1954, and versions have happened around the world ever since.
Held at the Bogan Fire Station, our own Bloomsday offers Irish music, food, wine, theatrical readings, and general Irish merriment. 6:30 pm–9 pm. Free. bririshclub.com.
