Bogue Chitto Youth Fishing Rodeo
Bogue Chitto State Park 17049 State Park Blvd., Franklinton, Louisiana 70438
The Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex and Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges Inc. invite local youth, ages four to fifteen, to come out and try their luck at pulling in the monster of the day. Held at the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge's Jim Schmidt Boardwalk Trailhead and fishing access site (Exit 11 off I-59 North in Pearl River), the family-friendly event welcomes both experienced and first-time anglers. There will even be a limited supply of loaner fishing poles available for pick up in Lacombe, courtesy of the Friends. (Just call 985-882-2015 to reserve yours!)
Prizes will be awarded in four age categories, in addition to the grand prize; and all participants will receive a T-shirt, provided lunch for the whole family, and bait. After rodeo hours (7:30 am–11 am), the pond opens to all anglers. Registration is $10 per child, and closes May 31. Details at fws.gov/refuge/bogue-chitto.
