How to Build a Forest
Inspired by one hundred lost trees at a family home during Hurricane Katrina—and the ecological aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico—How to Build a Forest is a multi-disciplinary, polysynthetic hybrid of a project. Visual artist Shawn Hall and performing artists Katie Pearl and Lisa D'amour work meticulously to construct, dismantle, and ultimately remove a fabricated forest over the course of eight hours. Meant to illustrate the disconnect between urban dwellers and the natural environment, the artists also expose both the creative and destructive forces that can apply to an art installation, a natural ecosystem, or an entire city. Visitors can stay for the entire eight hours, but may also stop in throughout the day to watch the progress. Gallery admission applies. CAC Warehouse, 900 Camp Street. Open during normal gallery hours, with extended hours to be determined. cacno.org.
