Cajun Face
The idiom, "You can leave Louisiana, but Louisiana never leaves you," would apply to the women depicted in this multi-media theatre piece, written by Lian Cheramie and Sarah Mikayla Brown. Cajun Face features a collection of vignettes that touch upon the experience of growing up in Cajun country surrounded by family and a rich, unique heritage. Interspersed with songs and interviews from members of the community, the largest question the young girls must grapple with is whether they should stay or whether they should go. Walter Pierce of IND Media wrote, “An uproariously funny and lively look at cultural identity and gender, Cajun Face is a two-woman tour de force—an accessible, familiar celebration of what to outsiders is an exotic culture. Brown and Cheramie manage to juggle reverence and sacred cow poking with comedic aplomb." The two-woman show was first launched in a short run last November but proved so popular that the duo is offering another three performances at the Duchamp Opera House in St. Martinville, 200 South Main Street. August 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm and August 17 at 2 pm. Tickets $10; pre-purchase recommended. (337) 394-6604. evangelineplayers.org.
