O'banion's debut novel Chinese New Year follows a retired literature professor living in Baton Rouge as he navigates the pains of moving into a semi-independent senior community—along with the robotic dogs and mandatory bingo that come with the territory. Oh yeah, it's also set in the distant future, "for no apparent reason," its author admits.
