Cast Iron Cook-Off

Downtown Olde Slidell will draw a crowd this Saturday, all in celebration of local culture while benefitting the Friends of the Slidell Police Foundation. Centered around the cast iron cooking competition, made up of local chefs and home cooks vying for the title of cast iron king, the day will also come alive with local shopping, area artist booths, a live painting event, a Kids Zone, a food court, and live music. Expect to enjoy Cajun and Creole cast iron specialities the likes of jambalaya, dirty rice, gumbo, sauce piquante, grillades, mirliton, maque choux, and more. 11 am–4 pm. $20; $5 for children ages eleven and younger; Family of four pass is $75.
