Chariot Parade
St. Martinville, La. Saint Martinville, Louisiana 70582
Legend has it that years and years ago, a young boy from St. Martinville visited New Orleans, and, enchanted by the passing of street cars lit up across the city, went home and—with a shoe box and candles—made his own. For St. Martinville's annual Chariot (sha ree o) parade, a century-old tradition, young people are invited to create their own cardboard chariots to parade down Main Street. Four categories for competition will include: plain box, fancy box, kid-made, and float. All attendees will get the opportunity to draw for prizes from local merchants. Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The parade begins at 7 pm in front of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. Registration is free, and begins at 6:30 pm.
